Characterisation:
Bilbo Baggins portrays bravery and courage throughout the novel The Hobbit. In addition to this Bilbo proves to the dwarves his ability to manipulate and persuade through speech. This is indicated when Bilbo plies with Smaug and assures him he isn’t engaged within the dwarves activity. Bilbo finds the Arkenstone while arguing with the dragon and all the dwarves are able to escape unharmed.

Character Profile:
Bilbo Baggins, the protagonist in the novel The Hobbit, is one of the many fictional characters involved within the text. Hobbits are approximately half the height of humans, beardless and have hairy, unproportionally large feet. Much the same of most hobbits, Bilbo is very fond of the comforts of his own home. He appreciates delicious, simple food and always ensures his pantry is packed with various ingredients. Bilbo loves his pipe and his well-equipped, luxurious hobbit-hole. He is humble and is not afraid to speak his mind.
Character Development:
Bilbo Baggins experienced tasks that further refined his character in bravery and confidence. Bilbo and Gollum were playing riddles which involved problem solving and rapid thinking and as a result of his achievement it increased his confidence. When Bilbo defeated the spider he gained respect from the other dwarves from the unexpected accomplishment.
